ROBERT TRUJILLO Calls Working On New METALLICA Songs 'an Honor'

October 24, 2008

The Pulse of Radio reports: METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo joined the band in 2003 but only got a chance to write and record with them for the first time on the new "Death Magnetic" album. With lead guitarist Kirk Hammett away for part of the time with a new baby, Trujillo told The Pulse of Radio it fell to him to act as the referee between frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. "It was an honor for me to sort of mediate most of the time, 'cause Kirk was away, and to be in the same room with Lars and James when they're arranging a METALLICA song is a wonderful experience, like going to the best school of music and arranging and songwriting you could ever imagine," he said.

Trujillo also said that Hetfield and Ulrich, the band's chief songwriters, were "open" to his ideas as well.

Trujillo's previous credits include stints with OZZY OSBOURNE and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES.

METALLICA kicked off its "Death Magnetic" North American tour earlier this week and plays on Saturday (October 25) in Kansas City, Missouri.
